Message for December 2019:

Wishing everyone a happy and joyous Christmas and great 2020.  On November 10, we had a Veteran’s day ceremony at the Germantown Veteran’s Memorial at 11 am. Your commander gave a speech which was covered in the November 16 Germantown Express News. Speeches were also given by Wisconsin State Senator Scott Fitzgerald, Representative Dan Knodl and Washington County Administrator Joshua Schoeman. A rifle squad salute was performed by your American Legion. Your Legion provided a color guard that marched at the Germantown Christmas parade.  As was mentioned in the last newsletter, next year, the post will begin sponsoring an American Legion Baseball team.  The team received a $2000 donation from Cargill to begin this program.  If you stop by the post, you will notice that there is a shipping container now located north of the garage.  As voted on by the membership, VFW9202 is storing their equipment for Christmas Tree sales inside.  Their old location was no longer suitable.   We received several thankyous in the past two months. Among them was one from Angels of the Road, thanking us for donating $167 to the Veteran’s Homeless Imitative. We were one of the stops for the motorcycle ride and a total of over $15000 was raised for the imitative. We received a thank you for our donation of $500 to the Stars and Strips Honor Flights.  Remember, a function of our American Legion is service, especially service to veterans. Our own Legion member, Dale Schuldt, was featured in a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article on November 7, entitled “Care packages from home were the highlights of this veteran’s time in Vietnam. Now he does what he can to support other veterans.” written by Cathy Kozlowicz of the paper’s staff. The piece highlighted what Dale does to support our veterans.

Bingo is held every Thursday at 7:00 pm, and we could use help here also so our regulars can take a break. This is our primary method of keeping up our building up so we can serve members of the community and our fellow veterans. With over 180 members in Post 1, I would ask that as many as possible to register your sons, grandsons and great-grandsons in the SAL. It was reported last year we had 24 members. The cost is only $8.00 a year. Our membership has dropped a bit Call Charlie Hargan at 262-255-2381.
